The Perfect Edge System by Festool

CONTURO – the first mobile edge bander with unique cartridge gluing system

festool-manual-edgabander-comturo-ka-65

Festool is launching the new CONTURO system onto the market – a hand-guided electric power tool for edge banding and a complete system solution to create the perfect edge with virtually invisible joins. The CONTURO is easy to operate and produces excellent results – both on rectangular components and complex free shapes. Perfect for manufacturing small batches as well as individual solutions that require the quick attachment of high-quality edging, even on curved, convex or concave shapes.

Requirements for the perfect edge are becoming ever more demanding because in addition to functionality, greater importance is being attached to appearance and feel. Visible glued joins and dirt that settles along the edge or noticeable protruding edges are definitely to be avoided. The working result can only be considered high in quality if the edges are machined perfectly. At present, straight edges are predominantly affixed using a bench-mounted edge bander that glues, trims, cuts and polishes to a perfect quality standard. A machining centre that incorporates a gluing station is required to affix edging to shaped parts and can be very costly as well as financially unviable for smaller enterprises. Mobile gluing has always been a messy, slow and awkward process that usually fails to deliver the desired edge quality.

Guided by hand and simply perfect

festool-portablel-edgabander-comturo-ka-65-

With the new CONTURO system, Festool has reached a new level of edge trimming perfection that was previously unattainable with hand-guided machines. “The perfect edge”: the attachment of edging to simple rectangular components or complex free shapes such as curves, radii, convex and concave shapes. Includes internal curves of up to 50 millimetres and outer curves of 30 millimetres and above. Edging with a height of 18 to 65 millimetres and a thickness of 0.5 to 3.0 millimetres (depending on the material) is quick and easy to process. Likewise, it is possible to attach edging to mitred edges from 0-45° to an outstanding quality in combination with the bench unit. Versatile and easy to operate, the CONTURO represents a genuine system solution for manufacturing individual shaped parts as well as attaching edges to workpieces or items of furniture produced in small batches. Packed in a SYSTAINER, the CONTURO is also suitable for mobile use and small handicraft companies as well as manufacturing edging in situ to a perfect quality finish.

A glue application system that has never been seen before

festool-portablel-edgabander-comturo-ka-65-glue-application

Festool has equipped the CONTURO with a unique glue application system that can glue edging made from different materials such as wood, plastic or melamine onto workpieces. The glue is applied accurately to the edge band through a nozzle and guarantees a tight join. The glue dosage is adapted automatically to the preset edging height. The display provides all the necessary information: temperature, glue level and the residual edging length – a specification that indicates how many metres of edging can still be glued at the preset edging width. In this way, the glue can be applied efficiently, easily and cleanly in exact doses. The heating grid only melts the exact amount of glue that is actually required. Consequently, the glue is not heated unnecessarily and the adhesive properties and colour of the glue are therefore retained. In practice, the CONTURO produces consistently perfect results without requiring unwanted rework. The unique glue application system uses cartridges that make changing the glue colour both practical and easy.

Multi-functional Trimmer MFK 700

festool-edge-trimmer-mfk-700

Flush routing of edge veneers, routing edges, rounding, profiling and grooving or rebating with side stop – the new module edge router MFK 700 from Festool is the all-purpose genius for corners and edges. Quickly alterable router bases permit extremely diverse applications. Craftspeople are thus ideally equipped for continuously changing routing requirements and materials.

Safe work with exact results

festool-edge-trimmer-mfk-700-application

The new MFK 700 is a small, handy edge router with extra-long router base support and auxiliary handle. The support length of 130 mm allows the MFK 700 to be guided perfectly and safely without tilting – even when routing round corners. Complex reworking of damaged or cut-off corners are thus a thing of the past. The desired routing depth is fixed quickly using the precise fine adjustment. An extraction system integrated in the router base guarantees a clean working area. These details help the user achieve exact routing results in an instant and, at the same time, make considerable savings on time required for reworking. The electronic speed adjustment switch makes exact tool speed possible and ideal adaptation to the material. Irrespective of whether you are working on solid wood, acrylic or PVC veneers or even laminated materials. An overload protection also guarantees a long service life for the MFK 700.

With alterable router base system ideal for changing requirements

festool-edge-trimmer-mfk-700-alternate-base-change

The modular design permits a very wide range of applications with the new MFK 700. The cost-effective, multi-talented tool can be altered at the interface in a few easy steps without the use of tools. Festool also offers an additional 1.5° alterable router base in the Set Variant, or as an accessory. This special inclination permits the router to be tilted 1.5° downwards. When flush trimming protruding edge veneers, this prevents damage to the surface. Statically charged acrylic or PVC routing chips are effectively drawn off by the integrated extraction system and do not stick to the machine or start-up system. The start-up system is independent of the router and does not leave scorch marks on the edge. For special applications in which workpieces are veneered or coated and the veneer is to be routed exactly at a right angle to the surface, a further router base with a 0° inclination is available as an accessory. The large number of advantages makes the MFK 700 a cost-effective solution for individual application areas.

The new CXS cordless drill from Festool

festool-cordless-screw-driver-&-drill-CXS

The German system provider Festool is expanding its range of cordless drills with the new CXS. The compact 10.8 volt drill impresses with its lightweight design weighing just 900 grams and is extremely powerful, has two gears and is well-balanced for optimal power transfer – also ideal for all areas that are hard to access.

Minimum dimensions with maximum performance

festool-cordless-screw-driver-&-drill-CXS-02

The first thing that springs to mind is its compact design. The pleasant effortlessness together with balanced weight distribution are immediately noticeable. And what’s even more surprising is the power that the new 10.8 volt CXS delivers when used for drilling and boring. It is thus obvious for what areas of application it is almost predestined: Drilling in hard-to-access places, overhead work, in short, everywhere where it is particularly narrow and therefore requires a high degree of efficiency. Incidentally the high-performance lithium-ion battery packs are also attractive. They represent real maximum value, also in terms of endurance, with up to 340 chipboard screws (4×40 millimetres) from just one battery charge. And last but not least the 12-phase torque adjustment allows the power to be transferred to the respective work either by fine metering or controlled metering.

Particularly smart and elaborate detail

festool-cordless-screw-driver-&-drill-CXS-01

The right bit is ready at hand in no time, light even where there is actually no light and can be operated regardless of whether you are right-handed or left-handed – these are the small details that give the new CXS the description of “elaborate detail”. And this includes not only the bit garage or the integrated LED lamp, but also the ergonomic and switch arrangement that can be operated on both sides, as well as the adjustable belt clip made from high-quality stainless steel.

Fast Fix interface as the perfect work preparation

festool-cordless-screw-driver-&-drill-CXS-fast-fix-chucks

Similar to Festool T and C series, the new CXS also has a FastFix interface for even more flexibility when drilling and boring. There is no complex retrofitting and the drill can be fitted directly with the bits. It serves as a quick-change system in combination with the standard chuck, the elbow adapter which is available as an accessory or the patented Centrotec tool chuck. In particular, the hexagon tool holder of the Centrotec system with its ball bearing guide offers not only speed that has never before been achieved when changing from bit to drill bit, but also a clear reduction in weight in comparison to traditional drill chucks at optimum power transfer and 10x greater rotary accuracy.

Cordless lithium-ion Drills C12 | C15

Stronger Than Ever

festool-cordless-screw-driver-C-15-01

Cordless lithium-ion Drills C12 | C15

The unique C-form of the cordless drills by the German power tool manufacturer Festool is well established in the market and has been the recipient of many design awards. Now it is fully fledged with a redesigned drive concept

The resulting cordless drills are even lighter, and more durable and powerful owing to the combination of EC-TEC motor technology with lithium-ion battery packs. Festool offers two variants: the C 12 with 10.8 V lithium-ion battery packs is a particularly light, convenient to use and compact cordless drill. The C 15 with its 14.4 V lithium-ion battery provides more power and endurance.

State-of-the-art EC-TEC motor technology

festool-cordless-screw-driver-C-15-motor

The EC-TEC motor technology developed and manufactured by Festool is synonymous with zero maintenance, extreme ruggedness and long service life owing to its brushless, electrically-commutated motor. With this motor principle less power is lost and consequently the new EC-TEC motor has an even greater power reserve and higher endurance. In conjunction with the ingenious electronic motor management, this power unit delivers a controlled output at all times and maximises service life and high efficiency. Interaction with the Festool lithium-ion battery pack optimises the utilisation of energy. The “Memory Switch” saves the torque setting and is therefore a significant time-saving feature. Straightforward changeover from screwing to drilling releases the maximum power of the motor and, thanks to the “Memory Switch”, the torque setting previously used does not have to be reset.

Convincing ergonomics, low weight

festool-cordless-screw-driver-C-15-easy-handling

The light and compact design of the two new cordless drills also allows drilling and screwing in locations that would otherwise be difficult to access: the slim softgrip handle and perfectly balanced centre of gravity make work easier in any position. Every detail of the new C series has been carefully considered. The switches, for example, facilitate effortless right-handed and left-handed operation of the drill. Even a slight pressure on the switch causes the integrated LED to light up, ensuring a high degree of precision – even in poorly lit locations. The cordless drill can be conveniently attached to a belt with an adjustable stainless steel clip.

C 12 | C 15 as a system

festool-cordless-screw-driver-C-15-chucks

The FastFix interface guarantees endless versatility. The chuck can be removed at lightning speed in order to mount various attachments: the tried-and-tested CENTROTEC tool chuck, the elbow and eccentric adapter, the depth stop for dry-lining work and the standard chuck. The comprehensive range of CENTROTEC system accessories also offers an extremely wide range of drilling, screwing, counterboring and many more applications for the C series.

Perfect design

festool-cordless-screw-driver-C-15

The new C 12 | C 15 both received an iF Design award 2010. Festool manufactures its new cordless drills in Germany and is the only manufacturer of power tools to offer a three-year guarantee on the machine, battery pack and charger of its battery-operated units.

Modular edge router OFK 700

Modular edge router OFK 700

festool-trimmer-ofk-700

Multi-talented tool for edges and curves

The OFK 700 EQ is the most multi-talented of all edge routers. This tool makes easy work of flush trimming protruding edges and surfaces, routing radii and chamfering – regardless of whether the workpieces are small or large, the edges curved or straight.

The new OFK 700 EQ impresses with its easy handling, individual adjustment options and excellent product quality that ensure the best work results. For this reason, it should be an integral part of every joiner’s and interior decorator’s tool collection.

Flexibility thanks to quick adjustment

festool-trimmer-ofk-700-laminate-trimming

The particular advantage of the OFK 700 EQ is the adjustable router base for horizontal and vertical applications. This ensures a stable support surface and safe guidance of the machine in every work position. To adjust the router base, simply unscrew the locking screws and turn the base by 90o.

Outstanding results

festool-trimmer-ofk-700-01

The router base is inclined against the routing axis by 1.5o, i.e. there is a resulting angle of 91.5o. This angle setting protects the surface of the workpiece against damage when flush trimming.

The OFK 700 EQ achieves a clean routed surface thanks to the levelling contact springs that can be used for inner radii of up to 150 mm diameter. The contact spring levels out unevenness on rough edges, e.g. on chipboard, and prevents them being transferred onto the work piece. A contact roller is also included in delivery for smaller inner radii up to 42 mm.

An exact routing depth setting for flush trimming protruding surfaces and edges is achieved using fine adjustment accurate to 1/10 mm. A gap in the underside of the support base enables you to work on protrusions up to 5 mm high. It is designed in such a way that protruding veneer on a board can be trimmed flush and rounded in one operation. This saves time and therefore increases economic efficiency.  Equipped with the corresponding disk-grooving cutter, the OFK 700 EQ can also route precise grooves for stud edges.

Safe and healthy work

festool-trimmer-ofk-700-laminate-MMC-&-Safety

Modern MMC power electronics keep the material-oriented adjustable speed constant for processing different edge materials. PVC and wooden chips are reliably extracted in any position when using the OFK 700 EQ. This is performed by the two extractor hoods for each work position. The well-proven ergonomic design of Festool machines ensures a secure, comfortable hold and easy-to-use switches.

Drywall Sanding

festool-wall-sander-planex

Drywall construction – no problem with the right equipment

Drywalling has been all the rage over the last few years: drywalls have become a familiar sight among architects, planning agencies, interior fitters, carpenters, painters, plasterers and plumbers. The first drywalls were used primarily in commercial applications and were comprised of sections of plasterboard that were joined together. Nowadays, requirements in the commercial and private construction sectors are extremely complex and many different types of dry, lightweight interior fitting are available. This development has had a wider influence on all areas of the construction industry: composite materials, panel heating and cooling systems (integrated in drywalls), highly soundproof ceiling, wall and floor systems that incorporate wood/glass/stainless steel and aluminium coated panel materials, conductive and photoactive plasterboard with a large storage capacity are some of the many areas developing in the drywalling industry. Potential for technical and creative innovation is given limitless freedom as a consequence. However, these developments also reveal that conditions for protecting the environment and saving resources will improve in the future. What implications do these developments have for traders? How will the trend develop, how can traders adapt, where can they procure the relevant information and how can they prepare themselves for changing materials?

festool-planex-wall-sander

Cutting and rebating panels efficiently

As a general rule, painters usually set up a stand before starting drywalling work. The painter can drill dowel holes for attaching the stand element quickly and efficiently using the Protool impact hammer CHP 26. Once the stands are set up, the painter can start rebating: many plasterboard manufacturers offer prefabricated profiled parts. Festool manufactures hand-guided electric power tools that offer painters the possibility of machining profiled parts, in particular in manual applications. Machines such as the TS 55 plunge-cut saw and the OF 1010 router are perfect for assembly tasks because they are lightweight and easy to use and their investment costs are lower. Panels that are unsuitable for cutting blades can be cut to length using the TS 55 plunge-cut saw with depth adjuster. A 45° or 90° corner can be rebated into panels using the OF 1010 router, guide system and a suitable plasterboard cutter. The fine adjuster enables painters to route more accurately in the workshop and perform precision tasks at the customer’s premises to prevent time-consuming rework.

drywall-sanding-01

Precise, secure fastening in drywalls

When inserting screws in drywalls, the painter requires a cordless drill that provides sufficient power and is fitted with a precision adjuster for the screw insertion depth. T+3 cordless drills from Festool incorporate impressive features such as outstanding power and an excellent fastening capacity per battery charge combined with a low weight. The T+3 series does not operate in the classic volt categories of 12 and 15 V, but generates additional power with the EC-TEC motor concept. Together with intelligent high-performance electronics and modern lithium-ion technology, the machines from the T+3 series not only operate relentlessly but even reach performance levels that are usually only to be found in the next highest voltage class. An accurate screw insertion depth setting is extremely important in order to avoid uneven surfaces and prevent inserting screws too deep, particularly when securing planks to drywalls. Festool has developed a depth stop specially designed for drywall applications that allows drywallers, painters, plasterers and interior fitters to achieve precision insertion depths time and again. The depth stop has an integral claw coupling, which maintains the preset fastening depth. The unique correction function enables quick and easy removal of screws inserted at an angle. A detachable stop sleeve is fitted to the end of the depth stop for quick bit changes. The depth stop is available as an accessory for all Festool drivers with FastFix chuck or for the C12 DUO.

drywall-sanding-02

Maximum power when inserting screws in professional drywall applications

The new DuraDrive DWC 12-4000 DEC Li drywaller screwdriver from Protool was developed for continual use in professional drywall applications. The specially developed machine operates at the perfect speed for drywall applications and allows the user to secure gypsum plasterboard to the base frame structure precisely and with minimum effort. Due to an ergonomic shape and design, the 1.7 kg DuraDrive rests snugly in the hand and is perfect for inserting loose screws or strips of screws with a magazine attachment. The machine can fasten 975 screws per battery charge, which means the DuraDrive can secure an average of 25 gypsum plasterboards per battery charge.

The staying power of the tool can be attributed to features such as the electronic cut-out, li-ion battery technology, EC-TEC motor and an innovative start/stop function, and is far greater than any of its competitors. The function ensures that the motor only starts when a screw is inserted. The user can even activate AUTO mode to perform this task automatically without pressing the main switch. Simply position the screw and apply pressure to insert. Pressing a trigger continuously is now a thing of the past. During continuous use, the DuraDrive simplifies the work of drywall professionals considerably while simultaneously providing a customised solution for the precision insertion of large numbers of screws within a very short time.

Bonding and stapling plasterboard

Plasterboard is easy to bond using the KTP 310 Alu applicator gun from Schneider. The stepless speed control allows extremely delicate material dosage. The applicator gun also has a rotary cartridge holder that prevents the user from having to put down tool to change the application direction and a quick-release valve ensures that material does not continue to escape when the trigger is released. The compact design and low weight of the applicator gun guarantee non-tiring work, even over longer periods. Commercial plastic and aluminium cartridges or pouches can be inserted in the gun, which is quick and easy to clean due to the smooth surfaces on the interior and exterior. (Technical data: air requirements 100 l/min., working pressure 8 bar, weight 0.98 kg). The new KLG 114-65 stapler from Schneider with precision staple insertion depth setting is suitable for securing plasterboard (special Fermacell), OSB panels and chip board as well as for manufacturing boxes, pallets, crates, frames and shuttering. The user can adjust the trigger setting to single or contact release. The adjustable exhaust air guide can be aligned to the best position for the user and workpiece. (Technical data: working pressure 5-8 bar, air requirements 1.3 l/impact, weight 2.5 kg, magazine capacity 130 staples, staple type 114 between 32-65 mm in length)

drywall-sanding-04

Rapid mixing of filler

The single-speed stirrer MXP 1000 by Protool characterised by outstanding operating ergonomics, or the RW 1000 with the CS stirring rod with anticlockwise thread by Festool are both recommended for stirring filler. The speed control and soft start function on this compact machine allow the user to adapt the speed of the stirring rod to the viscosity of the material. Additional features include a reinforced drive shaft and large spindle bearing for increased durability and robustness.

drywall-sanding-05

Large surface sanding

When preparing a surface prior to wallpapering or painting, the entire surface must be sanded from top to bottom. Sanding off walls and ceilings in high rooms could be so easy if scaffolding were used. However, scaffolding is not always practical and even sanding on ladders is a difficult task. The solution here is the PLANEX LHS 225 long-reach sander, which can be adapted to match the height of the ceiling. After filling gaps and screw holes, initial surface sanding is performed at medium speed using the combined long/short-reach sander and a fine sandpaper because the sander is extremely powerful. For a perfect finish the surface should then be sanded right up to the edges and into the corners using a sandpaper with P180 grit. The SRM 45 E mobile dust extractor operating in the background causes the machine to adhere slightly to the surface, ensuring quick, effortless machine guidance. The combination of the PLANEX LHS 225 and SRM 45 E special extractor enables painters to prepare walls and ceilings quickly, efficiently and with minimum effort without requiring scaffolding or a ladder. Painters can also achieve extremely efficient material removal rates on drywalls using the Cristal and Brilliant sandpaper grades in grits P40 to P320.

Painters can finish work on drywalls quickly, efficiently and effectively with the help of the right equipment. The correct selection of dust extractor, electric power tool, sanding pad, abrasive, saw blade and accessories will prepare painters well for any further developments in the drywalling sector.

Plunge-Cut Saw TS55

festool-interior-track-saw-ts55R

The new plunge-cut saw TS 55  from Festool

Over 30 years ago Festool revolutionised the market for circular saws with its plunge-cut saws. Festool is now once again raising the bar decisively with the new TS 55 R. Even more precise, more adaptable and easier to use – the new TS 55 R plunge-cut saw has even better handling characteristics and thanks to the superb detailed finish offers more application possibilities than ever before.

Festool set over 80 years ago a milestone in the trade industry with its first portable circular saw. And it was also the Festo brand which marketed the first guide rail in conjunction with the portable circular saw in 1962 and as a result of continuous further development consistently confirmed its claim as a performance leader in subsequent years. It is not without good reason that the Festool plunge-cut saw is therefore considered today as an epitome for professional circular saws and for a long time has been impressing and capturing the hearts of numerous tradesmen, as well as carpenters.

festool-interior-track-saw-ts55R-01

Remaining loyal to the principle of precision

The inner suction supports lend the saw its flat and continuous planar housing. Virtually boasting no bulges on its surface, it makes possible proximate sawing up to a minimum wall distance of 12 millimetres. It is thus designed for precise sawing of joints on floors and ceilings, as well as for trimming doors. Shadow gaps and expansion joints can also be created quickly using this tool. The tried-and-tested spacer wedge typical of Festool circular saws has also been completely redesigned. To date, it primarily represented a high standard of safety, but as a spring-loaded guide wedge it now helps deliver even more precise results. Because in comparison to the previous spacer wedge, its new design allows it to protrude from the housing before the saw blade; it can be positioned for example by moving the guide rail into the existing flat joint and thus guarantees perfect and straight continuation of the cutting edge.

festool-interior-track-saw-ts55R-02

Undercuts thanks to enlarged angle setting

The angles between 0° and 45°, which are required most frequently, can be selected conveniently and directly with the tab locations. The fact that there are hardly any precise angles on building sites is not only an open secret to professional tradesmen. This matter was taken into consideration with the new TS 55 R. Because with the new enlarged angle setting between -1° and 47° undercuts and exact corner solutions can now be created easily.

festool-interior-track-saw-ts55R-03

Pure power – without being obstructive

Festool focuses on high power with its new TS 55 R. For the tradesman this means that he achieves an infeed rate of 5 metres/minute when sawing – and without being obstructive! This is thanks to the plunge-cut saw’s powerful motor, the special gear reduction ratio, as well as the MMC electronics. The usual Festool features such as smooth start-up, temperature and overload protection, as well as triple engine mounting, ensure long life and quick braking for safety.

festool-interior-track-saw-ts55R-04

Practical right down to the finest detail

Sometimes extremely precise plunge cuts are in demand, for example when cutting worktops for kitchens. Festool has also created a practical aid for this application because a transparent viewing panel allows an optimal view of the saw blade and the marking on the workpiece. The result: The cut ends precisely at the point where it should end. For day-to-day work the double cutting depth scale with fine adjustment ensures precise results. Cutting depths with or also without a guide rail can be read and set or adjusted quickly and easily. Together with the guide rail the special splinterguard guarantees clean and splinter-free cuts on both sides and thus less reworking. Guidance jaws that can be adjusted without using any tools allow the plunge-cut saws to slide on the guide rails without any play.

festool-interior-track-saw-ts55R-05

Summary: Festool has redefined its classic with the TS 55 R and created even more application possibilities. The TS 55 R can be converted to a stationary bench saw with the Compact Module System CMS.
