Festool is launching the new CONTURO system onto the market – a hand-guided electric power tool for edge banding and a complete system solution to create the perfect edge with virtually invisible joins. The CONTURO is easy to operate and produces excellent results – both on rectangular components and complex free shapes. Perfect for manufacturing small batches as well as individual solutions that require the quick attachment of high-quality edging, even on curved, convex or concave shapes.
Requirements for the perfect edge are becoming ever more demanding because in addition to functionality, greater importance is being attached to appearance and feel. Visible glued joins and dirt that settles along the edge or noticeable protruding edges are definitely to be avoided. The working result can only be considered high in quality if the edges are machined perfectly. At present, straight edges are predominantly affixed using a bench-mounted edge bander that glues, trims, cuts and polishes to a perfect quality standard. A machining centre that incorporates a gluing station is required to affix edging to shaped parts and can be very costly as well as financially unviable for smaller enterprises. Mobile gluing has always been a messy, slow and awkward process that usually fails to deliver the desired edge quality.
With the new CONTURO system, Festool has reached a new level of edge trimming perfection that was previously unattainable with hand-guided machines. “The perfect edge”: the attachment of edging to simple rectangular components or complex free shapes such as curves, radii, convex and concave shapes. Includes internal curves of up to 50 millimetres and outer curves of 30 millimetres and above. Edging with a height of 18 to 65 millimetres and a thickness of 0.5 to 3.0 millimetres (depending on the material) is quick and easy to process. Likewise, it is possible to attach edging to mitred edges from 0-45° to an outstanding quality in combination with the bench unit. Versatile and easy to operate, the CONTURO represents a genuine system solution for manufacturing individual shaped parts as well as attaching edges to workpieces or items of furniture produced in small batches. Packed in a SYSTAINER, the CONTURO is also suitable for mobile use and small handicraft companies as well as manufacturing edging in situ to a perfect quality finish.
Festool has equipped the CONTURO with a unique glue application system that can glue edging made from different materials such as wood, plastic or melamine onto workpieces. The glue is applied accurately to the edge band through a nozzle and guarantees a tight join. The glue dosage is adapted automatically to the preset edging height. The display provides all the necessary information: temperature, glue level and the residual edging length – a specification that indicates how many metres of edging can still be glued at the preset edging width. In this way, the glue can be applied efficiently, easily and cleanly in exact doses. The heating grid only melts the exact amount of glue that is actually required. Consequently, the glue is not heated unnecessarily and the adhesive properties and colour of the glue are therefore retained. In practice, the CONTURO produces consistently perfect results without requiring unwanted rework. The unique glue application system uses cartridges that make changing the glue colour both practical and easy.

Flush routing of edge veneers, routing edges, rounding, profiling and grooving or rebating with side stop – the new module edge router MFK 700 from Festool is the all-purpose genius for corners and edges. Quickly alterable router bases permit extremely diverse applications. Craftspeople are thus ideally equipped for continuously changing routing requirements and materials.
Safe work with exact results
The new MFK 700 is a small, handy edge router with extra-long router base support and auxiliary handle. The support length of 130 mm allows the MFK 700 to be guided perfectly and safely without tilting – even when routing round corners. Complex reworking of damaged or cut-off corners are thus a thing of the past. The desired routing depth is fixed quickly using the precise fine adjustment. An extraction system integrated in the router base guarantees a clean working area. These details help the user achieve exact routing results in an instant and, at the same time, make considerable savings on time required for reworking. The electronic speed adjustment switch makes exact tool speed possible and ideal adaptation to the material. Irrespective of whether you are working on solid wood, acrylic or PVC veneers or even laminated materials. An overload protection also guarantees a long service life for the MFK 700.
With alterable router base system – ideal for changing requirements
The modular design permits a very wide range of applications with the new MFK 700. The cost-effective, multi-talented tool can be altered at the interface in a few easy steps without the use of tools. Festool also offers an additional 1.5° alterable router base in the Set Variant, or as an accessory. This special inclination permits the router to be tilted 1.5° downwards. When flush trimming protruding edge veneers, this prevents damage to the surface. Statically charged acrylic or PVC routing chips are effectively drawn off by the integrated extraction system and do not stick to the machine or start-up system. The start-up system is independent of the router and does not leave scorch marks on the edge. For special applications in which workpieces are veneered or coated and the veneer is to be routed exactly at a right angle to the surface, a further router base with a 0° inclination is available as an accessory. The large number of advantages makes the MFK 700 a cost-effective solution for individual application areas.
The German system provider Festool is expanding its range of cordless drills with the new CXS. The compact 10.8 volt drill impresses with its lightweight design weighing just 900 grams and is extremely powerful, has two gears and is well-balanced for optimal power transfer – also ideal for all areas that are hard to access.
Minimum dimensions with maximum performance
The first thing that springs to mind is its compact design. The pleasant effortlessness together with balanced weight distribution are immediately noticeable. And what’s even more surprising is the power that the new 10.8 volt CXS delivers when used for drilling and boring. It is thus obvious for what areas of application it is almost predestined: Drilling in hard-to-access places, overhead work, in short, everywhere where it is particularly narrow and therefore requires a high degree of efficiency. Incidentally the high-performance lithium-ion battery packs are also attractive. They represent real maximum value, also in terms of endurance, with up to 340 chipboard screws (4×40 millimetres) from just one battery charge. And last but not least the 12-phase torque adjustment allows the power to be transferred to the respective work either by fine metering or controlled metering.
Particularly smart and elaborate detail
The right bit is ready at hand in no time, light even where there is actually no light and can be operated regardless of whether you are right-handed or left-handed – these are the small details that give the new CXS the description of “elaborate detail”. And this includes not only the bit garage or the integrated LED lamp, but also the ergonomic and switch arrangement that can be operated on both sides, as well as the adjustable belt clip made from high-quality stainless steel.
Fast Fix interface as the perfect work preparation
Similar to Festool T and C series, the new CXS also has a FastFix interface for even more flexibility when drilling and boring. There is no complex retrofitting and the drill can be fitted directly with the bits. It serves as a quick-change system in combination with the standard chuck, the elbow adapter which is available as an accessory or the patented Centrotec tool chuck. In particular, the hexagon tool holder of the Centrotec system with its ball bearing guide offers not only speed that has never before been achieved when changing from bit to drill bit, but also a clear reduction in weight in comparison to traditional drill chucks at optimum power transfer and 10x greater rotary accuracy.
The unique C-form of the cordless drills by the German power tool manufacturer Festool is well established in the market and has been the recipient of many design awards. Now it is fully fledged with a redesigned drive concept
The resulting cordless drills are even lighter, and more durable and powerful owing to the combination of EC-TEC motor technology with lithium-ion battery packs. Festool offers two variants: the C 12 with 10.8 V lithium-ion battery packs is a particularly light, convenient to use and compact cordless drill. The C 15 with its 14.4 V lithium-ion battery provides more power and endurance.
State-of-the-art EC-TEC motor technology
The EC-TEC motor technology developed and manufactured by Festool is synonymous with zero maintenance, extreme ruggedness and long service life owing to its brushless, electrically-commutated motor. With this motor principle less power is lost and consequently the new EC-TEC motor has an even greater power reserve and higher endurance. In conjunction with the ingenious electronic motor management, this power unit delivers a controlled output at all times and maximises service life and high efficiency. Interaction with the Festool lithium-ion battery pack optimises the utilisation of energy. The “Memory Switch” saves the torque setting and is therefore a significant time-saving feature. Straightforward changeover from screwing to drilling releases the maximum power of the motor and, thanks to the “Memory Switch”, the torque setting previously used does not have to be reset.
Convincing ergonomics, low weight
The light and compact design of the two new cordless drills also allows drilling and screwing in locations that would otherwise be difficult to access: the slim softgrip handle and perfectly balanced centre of gravity make work easier in any position. Every detail of the new C series has been carefully considered. The switches, for example, facilitate effortless right-handed and left-handed operation of the drill. Even a slight pressure on the switch causes the integrated LED to light up, ensuring a high degree of precision – even in poorly lit locations. The cordless drill can be conveniently attached to a belt with an adjustable stainless steel clip.
C 12 | C 15 as a system
The FastFix interface guarantees endless versatility. The chuck can be removed at lightning speed in order to mount various attachments: the tried-and-tested CENTROTEC tool chuck, the elbow and eccentric adapter, the depth stop for dry-lining work and the standard chuck. The comprehensive range of CENTROTEC system accessories also offers an extremely wide range of drilling, screwing, counterboring and many more applications for the C series.
The new C 12 | C 15 both received an iF Design award 2010. Festool manufactures its new cordless drills in Germany and is the only manufacturer of power tools to offer a three-year guarantee on the machine, battery pack and charger of its battery-operated units.
Modular edge router OFK 700
The OFK 700 EQ is the most multi-talented of all edge routers. This tool makes easy work of flush trimming protruding edges and surfaces, routing radii and chamfering – regardless of whether the workpieces are small or large, the edges curved or straight.
The new OFK 700 EQ impresses with its easy handling, individual adjustment options and excellent product quality that ensure the best work results. For this reason, it should be an integral part of every joiner’s and interior decorator’s tool collection.
The particular advantage of the OFK 700 EQ is the adjustable router base for horizontal and vertical applications. This ensures a stable support surface and safe guidance of the machine in every work position. To adjust the router base, simply unscrew the locking screws and turn the base by 90o.
The router base is inclined against the routing axis by 1.5o, i.e. there is a resulting angle of 91.5o. This angle setting protects the surface of the workpiece against damage when flush trimming.
The OFK 700 EQ achieves a clean routed surface thanks to the levelling contact springs that can be used for inner radii of up to 150 mm diameter. The contact spring levels out unevenness on rough edges, e.g. on chipboard, and prevents them being transferred onto the work piece. A contact roller is also included in delivery for smaller inner radii up to 42 mm.
An exact routing depth setting for flush trimming protruding surfaces and edges is achieved using fine adjustment accurate to 1/10 mm. A gap in the underside of the support base enables you to work on protrusions up to 5 mm high. It is designed in such a way that protruding veneer on a board can be trimmed flush and rounded in one operation. This saves time and therefore increases economic efficiency. Equipped with the corresponding disk-grooving cutter, the OFK 700 EQ can also route precise grooves for stud edges.
Modern MMC power electronics keep the material-oriented adjustable speed constant for processing different edge materials. PVC and wooden chips are reliably extracted in any position when using the OFK 700 EQ. This is performed by the two extractor hoods for each work position. The well-proven ergonomic design of Festool machines ensures a secure, comfortable hold and easy-to-use switches.
